So there I was teaching Master students in a University the other day. All of them want to be, or already are Entrepreneurs and in the early start up phases of their businesses.
One conversation struck a note with me!
One lady said she’d known from the age of 15 that she wanted to be a photographer BUT….
Her parents, teachers and careers advisers had “stamped on her dream and passion for photography” and suggested a business degree instead. Unsurprisingly, she dropped out of this course within a year because that’s not where her passion lay.
Even more interesting was her comment that “I would have preferred that the people all around her would have asked – so you want to be a photographer how are you going to do that, what is the plan”?
She is now back in photography, has started her business and I wish her all the luck in the world.
I work with students like this all the time and over 70% have no idea of what they want to do which is why I offer schools, colleges and Universities the chance to do one day workshops to support and inspire their students.
By the end of the workshop students understand their passion and direction and come away with a plan of how they’re going to achieve their goals.
